Preliminary Task & Analysis

To begin with, the first task was to create a school magazine and this was the preliminary task. This was in order to demonstrate our skills and practice creating magazine pages. However this task only involved creating the front cover and contents and not the double page spread. The next task was to give a short analysis of the preliminary task. The main task was to create a music magazine with a specific music genre; however this task involved creating a front cover, contents page and double page spread. The magazine genre chosen should be suitable for the audience we aim the magazine at. In order for the magazine to be successful it would need a brand identity and the mode of address to be highly visible. In order to find a specific target demographic we had to carry out research and this research took the form of a quantitative survey which was electronic (we created the surveys online on questionpro.com). We were then asked to create two to three different templates and following that quantitative and qualitative research based on the templates in order to improve the most popular template and combine the ideas of the targeted audience to create my final magazine pages. I shall then look at existing magazine pages and analysis them in terms of codes and conventions and how these magazines meet the needs of their targeted audience. I will aim to keep a step by step figure of the processes involved in creating each magazine page. I will then include an institutional context report and finally an evaluation/production report.
This is the front cover of my school magazine and the contents page.
